They say time flies when you have a baby; that you blink and they grow up, but I'm not sure I can use that an excuse for not posting in over 2 months? It does seem very much, though, like time goes quickly. I can't quite believe how different Ainsley looks now compared with her newborn photos, or that my mat leave is nearly half over. I feel like I need to be savouring every moment and sometimes it just goes so quickly that I'm not sure I've done that (even more so when I'm sleep deprived!).
An update from the past two months ... In April we went to Toronto so Clem's family could meet Ainsley. I was nervous about the flight, and how she would sleep since moving her to her crib was so disastrous. In the nights weren't great, but they weren't that bad, and the flights were good. More importantly, we got to spend some good time with family and I'm pretty sure Ainsley won them over. She's lucky to have so many people on both sides of the family who love her very much.
SLEEP: I remember just before Toronto, I was able to sometimes put Ainsley down in her crib and she'd stay asleep there for 15 during the day and that was a huge victory (and I totally didn't know what to do with myself in those 15 minutes!). In Toronto, that became 30 minutes. By the end of April, I had worked out that she needed a nap roughly 1 1/2 - 2 hours after she woke up in the morning, and that became consistent. From there a routine emerged where she follows the same pattern (going to sleep 2 hours after she wakes up) all day. For the past few weeks now, Ainsley's been having regular naps that last an average of 45 minutes. Her eating has also fallen into a pattern, and she now eats every 3 hours during the day and is able to stay awake and fill up. And I don't have to nurse her to sleep, she can be rocked to sleep with a soother (she's been taking it since the end of April)! All of this is amazing for so many reasons. I can't get over how much better it is when she is rested, when I know when she'll need to eat and when her tears are for a different reason, and that I can actually cook dinner now! The nights, though, haven't turned around yet. The past couple months she's still been eating every 3 hours at night, plus a few extra wake ups when she needs a bit of comfort and a soother to go back to sleep. The past 4 nights, though, she's had one or two stretches where she'll go longer than 3 hours without eating, so hopefully this too is slowly changing.
Ainsley's been laughing for awhile now, and does that more often. She rolled from her tummy to her back just before 4 months, and apparently she rolled last week from her tummy to back in nursery at church, but we haven't seen it yet. She's sitting up for a few seconds on her own. Some of her favourite things are glasses of any kind of liquid, Sophie the giraffe, kisses & raspberries on her belly and looking out the window & being outside. She had her first fever after her second round of immunizations and became a very sleepy and cuddly baby for a couple days, but pulled through just fine. She's still having days from time to time with crazy teething symptoms but no tooth yet.
I know that's a whirlwind update. Hopefully next time there will be far less to cover as I won't be trying to catch up for two full months!!
